Capital of the state of Texas, Austin is located in the centre of Texas and boasts a population of approximately 885,400, making it one of the most populous cities in Texas. This city was also ranked the 2nd safest city in the United States in the year 2012 by the FBI. This ‘safe city’ is also the home of the Austin Film Festival (AFF), which grew to be a year-round event and which is especially known for its October events.
From The Heart Austin Film Festival (AFF) was first founded in 1993 and was considered to be one of a kind for its time, as it was the only festival that focused on the writers of the films. Initially known as the “Heart of Film Screenwriters Conference”, AFF is most famous for its October Austin Film Festival & Conference. The October festival is an 8 day event that occurs every year and attracts visitors from all over the world.
The venues in the 2014 October Austin Film Festival & Conference were a few places in downtown Austin, including Alamo Drafthouse Village, Paramount Theatre, Hideout theatre, and Long Center Rollins Theatre. However, since it is a series of events that occur throughout the year, the venues aren’t consistent. The October conference features a variety of events, a few examples would be workshops, meetings with screenwriters and filmmakers and teaching the basics of researching and then editing a story among a lot of other things.
There are several types of films that are screened and awarded in this film festival. Some of the major recent films screened in this festival were “Silver Linings Playbook” (2012), “Up in the Air” (2009) and “Black Swan” (2010).
