Cannes, situated on the French Riviera, in France, is famous to travelers and tourists for its grandeur, wonderful sites and history. At the same time, it has been the home to probably one of the oldest film festivals in the world, the Cannes International Film Festival, or also known as Le Festival International du Film de Cannes or simply Festival de Cannes in French.
Decades of Great Filming
Cannes International Film Festival initiated its glorious journey in the year 1946. Crossing its 67th mark this year from the 14th to the 25th of May 2014, it has ensured another successful year of great film showcasing, by pursuing its mission to improve movie making and enhance the growth of the film industry, and to celebrate cinema with the entire world. There is a special complex especially built for the Festival de Cannes, known as Palais des Festivals et des Congrès, and it has already been approved as the host for the 69th edition in the month of May 2015, from the 13th to the 25th.
An Array of Awards
When talking about the Cannes International Film Festival, the thought about which film is going to get hold of the grand prize, the Palme d'Or or the Golden Palm, is always spinning in everyone’s mind as the award is considered to be one of the most prestigious in the world, and is held in the highest regard within the festival; Turkish Director Nuri Bilge Ceylan’s film “Winter Sleep” had the great fortune to win this award this year.
There are other equally important awards and prizes given to the deserving candidates from all around the world chosen by very highly distinguished juries, which include:
