Throughout the years, film festivals have flourished and have become a major part of the world with probably at least one film festival being celebrated in every country, whether competitive/non-competitive or profit/non-profit in nature. Each film festival screens a variety of awesome films that are distinctive in their own way, but the Julien Dubuque International Film Festival might probably be the most unique of them all.

    Newest Edition to the Family

Named in the honour of the first settler, Julian Dubuque, the fiesta was born in the city of Dubuque, Iowa, United States of America, becoming one of the newest additions to the world's list of film festivals, being only 3 years old this April, 2014 since its inception in 2012.

    Streets Full Of Films

Unlike most traditional film fiestas, the Julien Dubuque International Film Festival is irreplaceable in the sense that the event is not hosted in a regular theatre or recreational area; the entire downtown is the venue. Visitors and guests can simply exit the grand Hotel Julian and just walk towards any of the festival's programs or film screenings in the creatively packed local spaces; you can enjoy a dramatic film while sipping on a martini in an underground local bar or watch a horror sci-fi film in a dimly lit restaurant a few blocks away.

Other than just screening films, the audience gets to enjoy a fun and innovative segment of the festival, the "Sponsor Shout Out", where sponsors are introduced to light-hearted comedy sketch mock commercials.

The festival screens all sorts of films, in such categories as:

    • Documentary
    • Drama
    • Narrative
    • Feature
    • Horror
    • Short
    • Student Film

Abigail Breslin, the lead actress in the movie "Little Miss Sunshine" and one of the youngest Oscar-nominated actresses in history, made an appearance in the in the festival as the "honorary chair" of the Julian Dubuque International Film Festival in 2014.

With an interesting idea of holding the programs in the streets of downtown and an innovative segment called "Sponsor Shout Out", this film festival is indeed worthy of being called one of the coolest and most intriguing festivals in the world.
